FMGE Overview
The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is a national-level licensing examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). It is mandatory for Indian and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) candidates who have completed their primary medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent) from a foreign institution and wish to obtain registration to practice medicine in India.
FMGE is conducted twice every year in the June and December sessions. Candidates who qualify become eligible for provisional or permanent registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC), after which they must complete the mandated Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI) in India.
FMGE is an online computer-based test that comprises 300 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) covering all major subjects of the MBBS curriculum. The exam assesses clinical, para-clinical, and pre-clinical knowledge essential for safe and competent medical practice.
