Otolaryngology/ENT syllabus in China

Otolaryngology (ENT) is one of many specialty areas of clinical medicine, involving both medical and surgical management of problems in the head and neck.
Otolaryngology (ENT) investigates the anatomy, physiology, and diseases of the ear, nose, throat, trachea, esophagus, and so on and their relationship with the whole body.

Students should learn the anatomy and physiology of ear, nose and throat; and be familiar with typical clinical presentation, key physical findings, initial treatment, and referral indications for common otolaryngological diseases.

Theory
1. Master the main structure and physiological function of ear, nose and throat.
2. Master the examination of the ear, nose and throat.
3. Master the knowledge of the principles of management of major ENT emergencies.
4. Master the treatment of common ENT diseases.
Skills
1. Be familiar with elicit a history pertinent to general health and ENT status.
2. Understand the perform diagnostic procedures such as indirect laryngoscopy, examination of tuning fork, the method of using head light, nasal speculum, otoscope.
3. Understand the diagnose and treat common problems affecting the ENT.
4. Understand Interpret ENT signs in relation to common systemic disorders.
5. Understand perform therapeutic procedures such as nasal packing, antral wash, syringing of ear, tuning fork test.
6. Understand the method to provide first aid in major ENT emergencies.

Marks are allocated for both the theoretical aspects and practical examination.
There are 80 marks for the theory examination and 20 marks for the Practical examination in Otolaryngology
